  • 100 Years of the Middle East - The Struggle for the Post Sykes-Picot Middle East

    Adnan Khan

    Paperback, 306 Pages
    14.7 x 21 cm
    MaktabaIslamia Imprints

The Middle East today stands at an epoch. The artificial architecture created by the British and French is tearing apart at the seams and no amount of stitching can keep it together. The Muslim rulers, who have long played the role of maintaining the artificial architecture in the Middle East, have lost their most potent weapon; fear. This was their only method of maintaining Sykes-Picot as well as themselves in power. Looking forward there are huge unprecedented demographic, economic, political, social, technological and geopolitical trends taking shape that will subsume everything standing in its way and sweep away those who try to maintain the status quo.

In order to understand the present, the past needs to be evaluated. The actions, intrigues, plots and plans of the past have come to shape the Middle East today and understanding them will give us a better idea of the current situation of the region. To comprehend the Middle East of the future, an accurate assessment of the region today is necessary in order to place the emerging trends in their correct context.

This book looks to provide answers to a number of questions. How did the Muslims, led by the Ottomans, go from a global power to the sick man of Europe? Was the Sykes-Picot agreement a folly by the French and British empires and poor strategic planning? Or part of a carefully constructed plan to divide the Muslim world in order to control it? Does the Arab spring confirm the end of Sykes-Picot and a new dawn for the people of the region? What are the most important emerging trends going forward? What do these mean for the region and beyond? What myths exist of the region which are simply untrue and upon closer scrutiny, do not stack up to the facts?

  • Ahl Al Bait Between the Two Schools

    Muhammad Salim Khidr

    Paperback, 281 pages
    5.83 x 8.27 inch
    Dar Ul Thaqafah

Allâh ordained for me to grow up enjoying innumerable favors; from among them has been: being guided to this religion (Isl«m), and landing a job that  allowed me to research the history of Ahl-al-Bait and the Companions. It was when, I carefully studied the differences in the various sources, understandings and perspectives, my aspiration grew to document the standpoint of moderate and balanced Islam towards the family of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Allâh revealed for me the knowledge about the evidence of exaggerated praise of Ahl-al-Bait in the literature from classical to recent times, giving me the desired insight to address the conflicts between the sects and the creeds in a rational way. I have thus tried to avoid criticizing any specific group; as I exclusively seek the pleasure of Allâh the Almighty to demonstrate the real  image of Ahl-al-Bait and their approach to life, which is based on my first-hand grasp of Sunnah – free from all innovations, superstitions, polytheism, illusions and assumptions.

I entitled it thus: ‘Ahl-al-Bait - between the Two Schools(‘Ahl-al-Bait - Bayna Madrasatayn’). This is because the current conflict has mainly been between the Two Schools, namely the schools of ‘Moderation’ (I’tid«l) and that of ‘Immoderation or Exceedance’ (Ghuluw). The third school called Nasibism that existed centuries before, has slowly found its way to extinction, leaving behind very little of its heritage in the form of a small number of individuals, who only produce scattered talk.

The dispute between the Two Schools has grown to the point that the voices of exaggeration, which are required to be contained in Islam, have further got amplified. As a result, every student of knowledge took it upon himself to demonstrate his erudition, inspired by the vengeance and his loyalty towards Ahl-al-Bait, in a time when it is extremely hard to find men who cherish a balanced view.

Nevertheless, I am neither praising my defective self, as all of us have weaknesses and commit mistakes; nor am I withdrawing myself from the errors for indeed, infallibility (I‘smah) exclusively belongs to the statements of Allâh and His Messenger. All human statements could be selectively accepted or rejected, except those of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); for this very reason, if there is any good in my words, it is only from Allâh, who has shown the right path and bestowed blessing upon me.

  • Al Ahkam As Sultaniyyah (The laws of Islamic Governance) - Al Mawardi

    Abul hasan Al Mawardi

    Paperback, 381 pages
    5.83 X 8.26 in
    Dar Ul Thaqafah

Al-Ahkam as-Sultaniyyah [The Laws of Islamic Governance] is both the single most comprehensive account of the workings of Islamic governance and equally a highly influential theoretical outline of the nature of that governance. It is also as if it were a snapshot of the inner workings of Abbasid power at its height. Woven throughout it are accounts of the scholars of the salaf which are the book’s lifeblood and its light.

     The Author

Abu’l Hasan al-Mawardi (d. 450AH) was a practising  Qadi whose excellent judgement earned him the soubriquet ‘The Most Judicious of Qadis’. Given that the role of the Qadi far exceeds that of a judge, the author was well placed to describe the workings of power from within. Along with that, his excellence as a scholar allowed him to produce a work which is one of the undoubted classics of Islam.

     The Translator

Dr Asadullah Yate Gained hin PhD from Cambridge with his dissertation on ibn Rushd as Jurist. He has succeeded admirably in translating this work accurately and in making it entirely readable.

  • Biography of the Prophet And the Orientalists Vol 1&2 - Mohd Mohar Ali

    Mohd Mohar Ali

Paperback, 1034 pages [2 Volumes Combined]
    6.75 x 9.9 inch
    Dar Ul Thaqafah

The orientalists have been studying the seerah of the prophet with a view to casting doubt and raising suspicions and discrediting the life and personality of the Prophet (saw). Their approach has evolved over the period of time. At times they have been vicious in their attacks as was the case in the 18th century which with time during the 19th and 20th century became seemingly sympathetic to his life.

This study by Dr Mohammad Mohar Ali critically analyses the works of three famous orientalists, William Muir, D.S Margoliouth and W. Montgomery Watt. Dr Ali refutes the charges levelled by them against the life and character of the Prophet (saw) with an erudition which the treatment of such a subject requires

  • Contributions of Muslims to Indian Subcontinents

    Allama Abul Hasan Ali Nadwi

    Paperback, 125 pages
    5.83 x 8.27 inch
    Dar Ul Thaqafah

In 1951,  on my return from an extensive tour of the Middle  East,  I  was invited  by the All India Radio to broadcast a series of talks in Arabic on Indian Muslims. These talks, luckily, were received favorably by some of the Indian missions lodged in that part of the  world,  and they  suggested  their publication in the form of a booklet. The All India Radio also broadcast them subsequently in some other languages and  an international Arabic Journal, Muslims, of  Damascus  was  good  enough to bring them out in its columns in a number of installments.

In the present compilation five new essays have, in all, been included which were not broadcast over the radio. These are:

    •  Influence of Muslims on Indian Civilization
    • Role of Muslims in the Struggle for Freedom
    • Indo-Islamic Culture
    • Sufi-Saints of India and their Impact on Society
    • Current Difficulties and Problems

It is hoped that the book, with these additions, will be read with interest among the educated circles of the various communities that go to make our people and prove of some value in reducing the ignorance and the attitude of indifference which exist in the sister-communities to wards  the Muslims. It may, further, be helpful in promoting the growth of a broad, realistic, national perspective in the country it so badly needs today.

It will also, perhaps, not be too much to expect that, apart from non- Muslim friends, many educated Muslims, too, will find in the.se pages something which will be new to them and will add to their knowledge about themselves and go some way, however little, towards ridding them of the inferior1ty complex they have developed lately, but  for  which there can be no justification. The Muslim are not only citizens  of  an equal status with anybody in India ; they are  also among  its chief builders and architects, and hold position second to none among the peoples  of the world for  selfless  service  to the motherland.

They  gave to India and to the Indian civilization a new Jibe and a new dimension  and awakened its people to a new set of moral  and spiritual  values.  Every patch of its land  and every particle  of  its  soil bears  the  imprint of their greatness and is a monument to their industry, earnestness and creative genius. In every aspect  of Indian life and civilizations can be  seen evidences of their noble aestheticism and cultural richness.

  • Fiqh Us Seerah - Mohammad Al Ghazali

    Muhammad Al Ghazali

    Paperback, 512 pages
    9,75 X 9.9 in
    Dar Ul Thaqafah

Many books have been written about the life of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW). In writing this book, the author had a specific objective. He used the life of the Prophet (SAW) to go onto depth about the Prophet (SAW) many historians only touched on the various aspects of his life. This book goes into detail and provides reasons and explanations for whatever took place. It is a blend of modern analysis and ancient detail. Its objective is to nurture faith, purify characters and fan the struggle to embrace the truth and be faithful to it.

Indeed, the life of the Prophet (SAW) has been documented as a message for practical implementation, not intellectual entertainment

'You may think that you have studied the life of Muhammad by following his history from birth to death but this is a grave mistake. You will never really understand the Sirah unless you study the noble Qur'an and the purified Sunnah. The amount that you derive from these will tell the strength of your connection with the prophet of Islam, sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam' From the Epilogue

An important work of the Egyptian scholar Sheikh Muhammad al-Ghazali. Drawing upon his profound classical Islamic learning and extensive knowledge of modern science, Sheikh al-Ghazali has broken new ground in the study of Seerah, bringing to bear a fresh but wholly authentic approach. This is a work which all serious students should have, to complement the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW)

Sheikh Muhammad al-Ghazali was one of the most influential Islamic scholars of the twentieth century, both as an author and in the field of Da'wa. Born at Buhayra, Egypt in 1335/1917, he received his schooling at the Alexandria Religious Institute before entering the Faculty of Usul al-Din at the University of al-Azhar.

In 1362/1943, al-Ghazali was appointed Imam and lecturer at al-Makataba al-Khadra in Cairo. He later became a prominent member of the Muslim Brotherhood and a close associate of Sheikh Hasan Al-Banna. During the early 1950s, he worked for the Islamic Movement in various capacities. Subsequently, his work for Islam extended over many parts of Africa, Asia. Europe and America as well as the Arab countries.

Between 1391/1971 and 1410/1989, Sheikh al-Ghazali rose through the ranks of the Egyptian Ministry of Awqaf, to become Undersecretary for Islamic Da'wa, His academic career included spells of teaching at the universities of Umm al-Qura (Makka) and Qatar: and he served as a Chairman of the Academic Council first of al-Amir 'Abd al-Qadir University, at Constantine, Algeria, and later of the international institute of Islamic Thought at Cairo

Sheikh Muhammad al-Ghazali published over sixty books, several of which have been published in translation. Probably the most important is 'Journey through the Qur'an' (al-Tafsir al-mawdu' li-suwar al-Quran al Karim). He received many awards in recognition of his contribution to learning and Da'wa. He died in 1416/1996 while attending a conference in Saudi Arabia. Rahimahu 'Llah.

  • How to Study the History of the Family of Prophet (saw) and his Companions (Ra)

Abd Al Kareem Bin Khaalid Al Harbi

    Paperback, 95 pages
    5.83 x 8.27 inch

It is the responsibility of the scholars that the history of Islam is kept free from the handiwork of the wicked and malicious ‘fabricators’, and also from the foolishness of the ‘ignorant’. It can neither be left in the hands of the Orientalists, who target Islam; nor in the hands of careless people, who may end up tarnishing the honour of previous generations by distorting their image because of partial or selective reporting. They pick a part and neglect the other to follow their own fancies, but Allah is going to reveal what they try to conceal.

Within this age, we find nations and communities trying to rewrite their own history. They gather information from tablets and papers, dig pavements, demolish houses and destroy mosques claiming the evidence of their buried history and heritage within them. They search, excavate and destroy to discover imagined past. This is not the case of a single nation but of many; and has not been confined only to the present times; rather,  has been observed throughout the different periods of history.

Then, what is wrong with our nation? It has a shining history preserved in print and in manuscripts, but no attention is paid to it, while it deserves to be closely studied, examined and analysed to learn from. It needs careful scrutiny to sift-out the truth from adulteration that has got mingled in it, so that it comes out pure and shining to the benefit of the readers. It should be like what our Lord, glory be to Him, has said: “The froth disappears, but what is of benefit to people remains on the ground, this is how Allah makes illustrations.” (13/17)

We wanted this booklet to be a short and preliminary guide for those, who wish to carefully study our history from its original sources and authentic books, and wish to be contented with it by overcoming problems and doubts.

I have divided the book into five chapters and a conclusion:

    • Chapter One is about: Historical Books: Causes of their Inadequacies
    • Chapter Two deals with principles of: Countering Doubts in Historical Perspectives
    • Chapter three presents the principles of: Countering Doubts in the History of Companions and Family of Prophet
    • Chapter four lists down: The Most Significant and Reliable Books of Islamic History
    • Chapter five deals with the: Books that Distorted Islamic History
    • The Conclusion includes the summary of what has been said in the book.

  • Lessons from History - Reflections on the past, Present & Future of two Muslim communities

    Dr Israr Ahmad

    Paperback, 122 pages
    5.83 x 8.27 inch
    Dar At Thaqafah

The substance of this book is based on the ideas published by Dr. Israr Ahmad in 1993 in the columns of the Urdu daily Nawa-e-Waqt of Lahore. The series of write-ups continued for a few months and were widely read with interest. The entire material, after slight editing, was published in a book form in October 1993 under the title Sabiqa aur Maujuda Musalman Ummatun ka Mazi, Haal, aur Mustaqbil, and has since gone through many re-prints. Dr. Ahmed Afzaal rendered these ideas into English and part of it was serialized in 1995-96 in the monthly Hikmat-e-Qur’an published by the Markazi Anjuman Khuddam-ul-Qur’an Lahore.

For putting it into a compact book, he further revised the entire material, added his own sub-titles, and made it more authentic by giving quotations from the Old and New Testaments. Indeed, he took great pains to make the citations of quite a few historical events and landmarks, particularly of early Jewish history, more authentic by giving dates and references from reliable sources. Moreover, he suggested a much more telling title for the book — Lessons from History — and the sub-title — Reflections on the Past, Present, and Future of Two Muslim Communities — puts in a capsule form the whole spectrum of ideas covered in the book.

  • Sayyidah Ruqayyah & Sayyidah Ummul Kulthoom (Radhiyallahu 'Anhuma)

    Uswatul Muslimah

    Paperback, 53 pages
    5.83 x 8.27 inch
    Uswatul Muslimah

People commonly adopt role models in life, either consciously or subconsciously. A person’s choice of a role model will show in his preferences, likes and dislikes, conduct, attitude, behaviour, dressing, appearance, etc.

Only that person is worthy of being taken as a role model who possesses true values and inspires others towards those values, which ultimately will be of real benefit and lead to true success. However, unfortunately, in many cases nowadays, the reality is totally different – that such a person is taken as a role model who even lacks imaan, let alone other values and qualities, such as modesty, respect, humility, etc.

Allah Ta‘ala has declared the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) as those who are worthy of being followed and taken as role models in the following verse,

“As for the first and foremost of the emigrants (The Muhaajireen) and the supporters (The Ansaar) and those who followed them in goodness, Allah Ta‘ala is pleased with them and they are pleased with Him.” (Surah Taubah v100)

In order to acquaint the Muslim women of this age with the lives of the Sahaabiyyaat (radhiyallahu ‘anhunna) so that they may take guidance from their exemplary lives and choose these illustrious and pure women as their role models, Uswatul Muslimah (Role Models for the Muslimah) regularly conducts programmes on the lives of the Sahaabiyyaat (radhiyallahu ‘anhunna), highlighting pertinent lessons that are applicable to our daily lives.

These lectures are being transcribed and prepared in book form to increase the benefit. While minor changes have been made, the manner and flow of the talk has been retained. This will insha-Allah make it a lighter read. However, since it is a transcript of a lecture, the translation of the Arabic texts would often be paraphrased and not direct at times.

May Allah Ta‘ala accept this effort and make it a means of great benefit for the Ummah, aameen.

The Islamic state is not a dream, nor is it a figment of the imagination, for it had dominated and influenced history for more than thirteen hundred years. Today, the Muslims worldwide are eagerly working for the re-establishment of this state, and they are eager for the return of the Islamic glory.

  • The Island of Black Waters (Kaala Pani)

Hadrat Maulana Muhammad Jafar Thanseri Sahib

    Paperback, 71 pages
    5.83 x 8.27 inch

The contents of the book in hand, deal primarily with the  third struggle, made in 1862, spearheaded by Maulânâ Muhammad Ja’far Thanserî Sâhib (ra), a wealthy saint of his time. The book, penned as an autobiography, describes, in the most beautiful of ways, the sacrifices made by this giant of Islam, which includes, amongst others; being framed by his associates, being issued the death sentence, having all  his possessions confiscated, having his sentence changed to life-imprisonment at Kâlâ Pânî (Black Waters), an island of Indonesia, used by the British as a prison base for those prisoners who were regarded as most dangerous to the state, etc.

The book describes, at full length, how, when Almighty Allâh (swt) decides to keep one in a comfortable condition, no power on earth can change that decision. It gives an example of  how the fire of Ibrâhîm (swt)  was turned into a garden, by illustrating how the island of Kâlâ Pânî became as  comfortable as home, for this servant of Allâh (swt).

Where he had to suffer being separated from his wife and children, Almighty Allâh (swt)  offered him recompense almost immediately, that while still in captivity, he was able  to make two more nikâhs (marriage contracts), and  was  blessed with ten more children, naming each one after the one he had lost in India. Finally, after twenty years of imprisonment, he returns to his homeland, as a sign of the power of Almighty Allâh (swt), that for whomsoever  Allâh  (swt)  has written honour and respect, none can bring upon him a disgrace.
