This old tradition of compiling arba'in is not conventional- rather, the basis for this is a Hadith that encourages the compilation of forty Hadiths, or conveying them to the people. The Prophet (saw) said: Whoever preserves for my nation forty Hadiths regarding their religion, Allah the Almighty and Exalted shall raise him on the Day of Judgement amongst the group of jurists and scholars.
